So many people live in fear about gaining weight and getting fat. Most of the questions that I am asked on Quora have to do with how not to get fat or how to lose weight.

The Truth About How To Prevent Getting Fat

There are a few ways you can avoid getting fat, unless you have inherited your body size or are taking medication that increase your weight.


You may think this is being sarcastic, but it’s not.

Dieting is probably the #1 way  that people gain weight unrelated to genetics. 

Why Does Dieting Cause Weight Gain?

Dieting slows your metabolism and is stressful for your body and your mind. When you restrict certain foods or under-eat you put your body and mind into a stress state. Then when you are under stress you over-eat the food you have not allowed yourself. That’s called stress eating. They overeat or binge on the food they miss the most. Few people binge on broccoli.

Why do people diet in the first place? Because they dislike their body, they are shamed by others to lose weight.  And THAT is stressful. When people shame and blame you, accuse you of being lazy and lack will-power that is stressful. And stress changes your metabolism and can contribute to weight gain!
Unfortunately there are so many lies that are told by the Diet Industry that everyone believes that the only way to lose weight is to "eat less and exercise more".  The only problem is it doesn't work. 

Strongest Stressors That Affect Weight

There are universal events that cause stress. Death of a loved one, illness, caregiving, loss of a job, lack of sleep, are all stressors that affect most if not all people. But stress, from economic deprivation, abuse, lack of safety are all reasons that make people are heavier than others. Instead of these people who are suffering receiving help and care, instead they are shamed and blamed for being fat. That makes it even worse. No, it doesn't help to shame someone to go on a diet.

Especially since dieting doesn't work for 98 percent of the population who attempt to diet. Yes, they can start by losing weight, but then NATURE brings back your weight to your highest set point.  It's nature's way of preserving your life by slowing down your metabolism in times of starvation. And once your weight goes up it makes a new higher weight set point. It’s almost impossible to lower than set point once you go up.

How To Avoid Getting Fat: Reality Testing


Want to avoid getting fat? Choose tall, thin, rich parents who don’t abuse you. Pick a job that you love and get well paid. Don’t get sick and take medication that will increase your weight. Find someone who loves you, and who you love. And NEVER diet! That’s the solution.
