How do you know if you over-eat? I'm serious!

Does your stomach hurt or do you feel bloated? Or do you get on a scale the next day and looking at the numbers? Are your clothes tight the next day? Do you eat less the next day to compensate for overeating?

Or does your body just self-adjust? That's actually what is supposed to happen if you overdo by gorging yourself on that chocolate birthday cake at the office. If you let it, your body will compensate for that transgression and adjust all by itself! But NOT if you diet!

This quote from the book Health At Every Size shows you how truly incredible our bodies are when you don't screw them up with trying to control them!

Controlling Your Weight

It turns out that trying to manually adjust your weight by counting calories, seeing how many calories you burned on the treadmill is impossible. If you read this book you will see how complicated and complex it is to try to wrest control from nature!

The Best Approach To Weight Management

Weight management is impossibly difficult as shown by the failure rate of 95-98% of people failing to maintain weight loss. And it's not about a lack of will-power!  It's a lot easier to gain weight, that to lose it. That's because every time you go on a diet, you metabolism slows down as your body struggles to keep you from starving. It can go down as much as 30%! Then after you get frustrated or hit your goal weight and start going on a maintenance eating plan, you weight goes up naturally!

Some people's metabolism stays suppressed forever after a diet! Some have it stay suppressed but it can last for years! Can you imagine having eat 30% less for the rest of your life?

Then How Do You Lose weight?

The truth is no one really knows! No one diet, lifestyle change, exercise program or any other method INCLUDING SURGERY (which is incredibly dangerous, with terrible side effects and it increases your chance of DYING!) is close to perfect! In fact you only stand a 2% chance of maintaining your weight loss, and a 98% chance of not only regaining it, but putting on additional insurance pounds. Your body doesn't want you to starve again!

I know.... this is depressing. But it doesn't have to be.

The best diet is NO diet. The best thing you can do is prevent gaining more weight by understanding why you put weight on in the first place! It's actually a very complex problem that real scientists have not solved. But if you want to read some real UNBIASED research about the factors, I HIGHLY recommend you read Dr. Linda Bacon's book, Health At Every Size. I promise you will be shocked.

I hope you will be so shocked that you will stop blaming yourself for weight gain, and realize that you were gaslighted by the Diet Industry! I hope you will be so shocked that you realize that the way to a healthy body is to stop dieting and get physically fit (which isn't so hard- no Cross-Fit necessary!).

Stress Eating Adds Pounds

It's important to realize that the reason you overeat and may even binge eat is FROM DIETING and restricting foods! That makes it even more important to stop dieting.

Think about it: the reason you started dieting in the first place is probably because you were unhappy with your body. In order to stop dieting you're going to need to adjust your attitude about your body and become more accepting. This is especially important when you learn about the odds of maintaining weight loss!

The other thing you can do is to identify what stress triggers are sending you to the refrigerator to eat. Until you can find a better way to manage your stress instead of eating "comfort food" you are in danger of gaining MORE weight!

Forgive Yourself

I cannot recommend enough the importance of reading Health At Every Size.  It is so eye-opening, and once you know, you can never not know again why you gained weight from Dieting. Forgiving yourself for your weight issues is incredibly stress relieving. And with your new found knowledge you can tell all those people who are fat shaming you information that may shut them up for good!
