How Did You Start Gaining Weight?
When you first decide to diet you rarely consider what caused you to gain weight in the first place? The thing I’ve learned from decades of dieting and meeting women who like me is this: we are all different in how we first started gaining weight. I found out through extensive research and interviews, that the reason we’ve gained weight is not as simple as “I ate too much, and exercised too little”. When you start really investigating the source of weight gain it has much to do with stress that you are experiencing in your life.
I have heard heartbreaking stories about women who have been emotionally, physically and sexually abused, lost children, lost jobs, divorced and so many more sources of terrible stress. That set them off- even not eating more, but it changed their biological responses to food! And yes, some find solace in food to sooth those horrible feelings of depression, fear and anxiety.
No Self-Control
We have been convinced by the Diet Industry that we gained weight because we have no self-control about how much we eat and how often we exercise. Sure, it sounds logical, but unfortunately it doesn't apply to human bodies. There is so much more going on inside our body that affects the way our body reacts to the food we eat! And one of the biggest affects is from STRESS!
If they realized that abuse and stress causes weight changes, how could people be so cruel to blame and shame heavier people??
Something Wrong With You?
But the public has not learned that and instead blames people who are heavy for having a “character flaw” because they had no self-control. They convince you that there's something wrong with you. Of course, they say the way to lose weight is that you have to "eat less and exercise more".
And even though you do eat less and exercise more (which creates stress, btw!) you know it didn't work for you! You get to the point where you actually don't trust your own experience with dieting and exercise! You know you did everything right- ok, sure you cheat sometimes, but that doesn't make the huge difference. But these skinny "not it alls" and media ads somehow convinced many of us dieters that there was something wrong with us – after all, look at the ads of all the women who went on some diet and lost 49 pounds in a month. Why couldn’t WE do that? It must because something is wrong with us?
Don’t believe it! YOU are normal, and nothing is wrong with you or your body! If you want a bunch of research and facts from reliable sources to prove that to you, you MUST read Dr. Lindo Bacon's book: "Body Respect". This books is fascinating, not a boring read and includes many of the things you need to do to bolster your knowledge and self-confidence to respond assertively to body and fat-shamers. These "eat less and exercise more" proponents are the ignorant ones!
How does an industry make a product that fails 98% of the time and still make billions of dollars a year?
Fat-Shaming
The pressure of society, doctors and the media on people who had gamed weight failed at dieting has become even more extreme. Nowadays, people think they have the right to say whatever they want to another person, be it cruel, prejudiced or just plain untrue. This puts tremendous stress on people who are being fat-shamed for gaining weight.
Lies About Dieting
The fact is that EVERY KIND of diet, including Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig, Paleo, vegetarian, etc. failed to maintain weight loss for more than 2 months to 5 years for 95% of people who went on a diet. And in fact, each time you go on a diet, the PROBABILITY is you will regain the weight you struggled to lose and add additional weight because you went on a diet! This creates the yo-yo syndrome. That’s when you diet, regain the weight, and then after a while get disgusted with your new heavier weight and diet again. Diets are the cause that creates the condition it claims to eliminate!
Would a doctor prescribe eating lots of sugary desserts to cure diabetes? Of course not! Then why do they tell you to diet to lose weight??
First of all, why don't doctors know about this? Why would doctors tell you to lose weight when it actually causes worse health outcomes, such as yo-yo syndrome (weight cycling)? And weight cycling actually causes even worse conditions that being a high BMI! Why then, are doctors prescribing a “cure” that actually causes additional weight gain? That's because most doctors are ignorant and prejudiced against heavier people as well!
This is the reason that so many women have actually cycled their weight up higher than it would have ever been IF they had never dieted in the first place.
Can't Lose Weight- STUCK
What can you do once you’re stuck at a high weight and still can’t stand your body the way it is? Are you going to fall for another false diet claim, and get back into that vicious cycle of dieting and regaining weight? Or, are you ready to finally take a different path?
