duct-tape diet

Do you hate your body, and do you punish yourself by going on a diet?

The reason anyone goes on a diet is because they are not happy with their body. The reasons may be:

  • that you can’t fit into the clothes you want to wear
  • that you are comparing yourself to others and feel you don’t look as good as them
  • you want to attract a new boy/girlfriend and think no one will like you because you are overweight
  • your doctor told you to lose weight (and you agree)
  • you have some event coming up and you “need” to look your best
  • or a million other reasons

Going on a diet is probably the worst thing you can do to change your body permanently. In fact, it’s almost a guarantee that once you get on the road to dieting the one thing that will happen is you will GAIN weight. Yes, you read that right. Dieting leads to weight gain. That’s what’s known as “yo-yo dieting”. 95{5b8e831512cf0c284f7edae7fc403e9a09e5b1736c5b1d60e4451a29dc064ebe} of dieters lose the weight only to regain it within two years. Even people who have gone for bariatric surgery regain the weight! And the worst thing is when you regain the weight you get some added insurance pounds. Yes, your body doesn’t want you ever to be in danger of starving again, so it pads you with a little extra fat.

What’s the answer? 5{5b8e831512cf0c284f7edae7fc403e9a09e5b1736c5b1d60e4451a29dc064ebe} of dieters do maintain weight loss. The answer is probably that they learned how to manage stress, and stop punishing themselves by dieting. They stopped the CAUSE of weight gain: STRESS. Stress causes over-eating and binging. So you can’t stop yourself from emotional eating by dieting, because when the next big stress comes up, out goes the diet! You must address the CAUSE of over-eating in the first place!

Hating and berating your body creates a negative mindset and is actually a stressor for your body – and that alone can change your metabolism.  Learn to see your inner beauty, and realize how unique you are. Identify the external stressors in your life, and practice managing stress every day. That way food won’t become your drug of choice to deal with stress.

Forgive yourself for getting overweight and your inability to lose weight. Stop judging yourself harshly for what you look like. That is a good first step. And learn more about the biology of why dieting is so bad for you- and make a promise NEVER to do it again.

You can learn more about the truth about how the Diet Industry has lied to you for their own financial gain in my book: Diet Industry Lies that Make You Gain Weight. If you doing believe it’s true, just think of Oprah’s journey- with all the help, personal trainers, cooks and people looking at her: she is overweight and one of the most beautiful people on this earth.

Learn that food is there to nurture you and enjoy -not as a drug to make you feel better or a way to punish yourself. Then if you’re in the 5{5b8e831512cf0c284f7edae7fc403e9a09e5b1736c5b1d60e4451a29dc064ebe} you may find the weight adjusts itself. Or not…. and that too, is ok.

You can make your own Mindset
