surviving-a-disaster

Thanksgiving is the day when our nation celebrates gratitude. And what better way is there to celebrate, than being with your friends eating delicious food? Gratitude is the antidote to stress, sadness and negativity.

Does a fish know it’s wet?

When you think about it, in order to experience gratitude, there must have been times when things aren’t going exactly the way you had planned or hoped. There have been many events that present real challenges to gratitude, if you follow the news. People losing their jobs, their homes; random gun violence; continuing war; environmental disasters seem to be more frequent and devastating.

However, it is often these sad and terrible events that inspire gratitude in each one of our hearts and souls. Those are the times when we find thanks for our own safety, and reach out to help others. Giving from the heart is truly the greatest gift you can give yourself.

And if you are one of those people who have suffered, and survived, knowing that complete strangers are moved by your plight, and want to help is sometimes enough to give you to the strength to move ahead with hope.

Most people have experienced both sides of the gratitude. Let those hard times remind us that right here, right now, as you read this, someone has written this note to let you know that she appreciates you. I thank you for allowing my words to come into your life, and perhaps bring you  a helpful perspective, and alternative view, a new way to appreciate, nurture and love yourself. You deserve it.

Eat that turkey, enjoy your food! Happy Thanksgiving.
