So many people want to lose weight. The “Obesity Epidemic” is the headlines you read all over the internet and magazines. Are you desperate to lose weight? Have you tried every diet, and regained the weight? If you are like 95{5b8e831512cf0c284f7edae7fc403e9a09e5b1736c5b1d60e4451a29dc064ebe} of the people who are presently overweight, or obese, if you continue to diet, you will eventually “re-bound” from your weight loss, and yo-yo up to a higher weight. And undoubtably, you will blame yourself for not following the dieting. And that’s where this new type of health coach comes in.

Does A Diet Coach Help You Lose Weight?

A new graduate from a prestigious school for nutrition just posted on “Linked In”. “Everyone”  she says, wants to lose weight. She asked the group  if she should also offer supplements or vitamins to help her clients. Many health coaches answered her question, all offering their own particular supplements. This gets me SO angry! This is the very reason that the Diet Industry is at a minimum making $60 BILLION on the self-hatred, and self-blame of people who fail at dieting.

Here’s my answer below:

Losing weight is the least of the problem for most people. Because they can  lose, but 95{5b8e831512cf0c284f7edae7fc403e9a09e5b1736c5b1d60e4451a29dc064ebe} of them gain it back! Are you going to give a guarantee to your clients that if they follow your diet plan that they will sustain the weight loss? It’s not even a matter of staying on a diet! Most people regain the weight while ON the diet, because that’s how a healthy body is programmed to work by nature! But most of these programs with miracle supplements and miracle shakes and pills don’t explain that. AND, should your client expect that they have to keep taking those supplements for the rest of their lives??

The bottom line is: There is no one size fits all solution for weight loss. We don’t even KNOW what constitutes a healthy diet! People eat different types of food all over the world (low carb, high carb, high fat, low fat)- and maintain their weight; while some people gain weight.

And if a person got overweight in some manner, you may not even know what caused them to gain the weight in the first place! It was probably the result of stress (present or even from their past!) Stress changes their physiology, OR could have started them using food as a self-medication for stress. HOW would a new food or supplement change that??

Furthermore, people are still teaching the flawed concept that: eat less & exercise more is going to make you lose weight. That’s why there’s an obesity epidemic. Reduced caloric intake slows down the metabolism and causes a rebound of weight as the body struggles to prevent starvation. Exercise more causes more appetite, not less!.

Bottom line is: this is a REAL problem with UNREAL solutions. What are you going to do when your clients come back to you after regaining the weight; PLUS additional pounds after each diet? Blame them? That’s how the diet industry exists. On the self-condemnation of people who struggle and starve to lose weight, and are doing the very thing that is making them GAIN the weight. Stressing out…

Are you thinking of going on a diet? It’s NOT what you are eating; it’s what’s eating you! Even thyroid problems, whether diagnosed or not, are responsive to stress in your life. Start a self assessment: when did you start gaining weight? What was the precipitating factor? Then deal with that before you start stressing yourself out even more with lowered calories and excessive exercise which will just make matters worse!
